If something we don’t like happens, and we change US
to get God on our side to make it better,
this is UNBELIEF, not faith (see Part 2).
If something we don’t like happens, and we look to God
and what he has already done in us and for us,
then we respond to him in FAITH.
There are changes we need to make to make life better.
But to make changes to get God to like us and favor us is wrong.
He likes us and favors us in Jesus.
If someone dies, Christians should have less sorrow than others.
We often have more sorrow: trying to figure out what
we did wrong, to keep them from being healed.
We have a job to pray in faith. But don’t take ownership
over your prayer and take responsibility for making it happen
the way you prayed.
Guilt and condemnation built on rules causes strife & anger:
trying to figure out what’s wrong with us,
instead of seeing what is right with Jesus.
If we trust anything in us, based on some precept or principle, we are prideful.
We fall from grace, and Christ profits us nothing (Gal 5:4).
If we found any system, precept or principle that worked,
we would be forced to serve it,
and not God who put us here on spaceship earth.
Human ‘how to’ methods, and pursuing a life of desire
and betterment, will always keep us
from seeing what God has done and is doing in us.
One man’s obedience (Jesus) is what causes us to be righteous
in God’s eyes. So Jesus would have to be disobedient
for us to be unrighteous. Are you really worried about this?
Doubt is born not truly knowing God.
If all we have is faith for a desired outcome –
and it does not happen — doubt becomes unbelief.
Trust is relational.
We should know WHOM we believe (II Tim 1:12).
Faith in WHAT we believe often produces unbelief, not greater faith.
“If the Lord is pleased, then he will…” Don’t get stuck in this
Old Testament way of thinking.
If our faith is in Jesus, Father IS pleased with us.
We don’t have to perform good to see God’s smile.
We receive his smile due to our faith in
the good performance of Jesus (II Cor 10:5).
“The goodness of God leads to us to repent.”
God’s love and kindness draw us to him like light draws a moth.
His perceived anger in the law makes us run from him.
As ministers, we speak of God’s love, acceptance and forgiveness.
This is ministering light. Talking of his anger and judgment
ministers darkness and condemnation (II Cor 3:6).
Success is getting the most out of what you have to offer.
Success is also simply making as few dumb mistakes as possible.
We all dumb mistakes.
Jesus came to call sinners, not the self-righteous religious (Mk 9:13).
He didn’t rail on sinners; just on those who were humanly religious.
In the Old Testament, God’s anger was caused by the law (Rom 4:15).
In the New, his love and smile is prompted
by our being fulfilled by the finished work of the cross.
Sunday School 101 presents Moses and the law first,
so it easily becomes #1 with us. It’s the law of first impression.
But gospel truth and God’s grace is really predominant (John 1:17).
We can’t understand God’s unconditional love for us.
Paul says it’s ‘without understanding.’
We just must TRUST God enough to live it,
knowing it does not depend on what we do.
The Pool of Siloam (John 9) shows knowing God
does not give us divine sight when we’re born again.
Only gospel truth gives us 20-20 spiritual vision (II Tim 2:4).
Jesus is ‘the sent one’ sending the man to wash his eyes.
We’re all ‘sent ones’ if we minister the gospel of peace: Rom 10:15.
Ministering anything else is not on God’s agenda.
Gospel coaches minister grace to all (Eph 4:29).
This means God’s grace and favor (Acts 20:24),
and peace with him (Rom 5:1, 10:15).
